Shoreline Inn has GONE SOLAR!

May 13th, 2015

Shoreline has gone SOLAR! After extensive research we decided to convert to solar energy for our electricity needs. We interviewed various companies and chose one that met our requirements in solar equipment. We also chose to participate in PG&E’s Solar and Net Energy Metering Program. Our equipment consists of 170 solar panels on both beachfront and deluxe buildings, including 8 inverters.

The benefits of solar are to reduce Shoreline Inn’s carbon footprint and to take advantage of the electrical energy emitted from the Cayucos sunshine. The solar panels generate 90% of the energy that is being used at the Shoreline Inn. Since installation in January of 2014, we have saved 168,608.09 lbs. of CO2 emissions, which is equivalent to 4,329 trees being planted. The energy produced since the install could power 336,394.03 light bulbs for a day. It’s quite exciting to see these numbers when we check the daily productivity data available online.

There is even more happening at the Shoreline Inn to be a more eco-friendly lodging facility. Our rooms have low flow toilets and showerheads that use up to 40% less water than what was previously installed. For guests staying 3 nights or longer, sheets are changed every three nights, not every two. Guests are asked to rehang towels that don’t need laundering so that fresh towels do not need to be replaced daily. Updated landscaping includes drought resistant plants and watering the lawns has been reduced to two days a week as mandated by the state. We appreciate guests understanding while measures are being taken to conserve water, for example walkways have to be carefully cleaned while being water conscience. Front desk only prints out paper receipts upon request, for our continental breakfast we use compostable flatware, plates, bowls, juice cups, and provide glass mugs for coffee. The bathroom amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and lotion tubes are all biodegradable.

To live, work, and play in Cayucos is a gift. We want to take every opportunity to protect our beautiful environment and our resources for future generations to come. Thankfully, many of our guests are like-minded in these matters as well!
