There is no doubt that Cayucos is the place to be in California for a family fun patriotic celebration of America’s birthday. Fourth of July has always been a big celebration in Cayucos, starting with a sandcastle contest on the beach, followed by a parade, bingo, and ending with the traditional fireworks off of the Cayucos Pier. We’ve got all the information you need to know about making this your best 4th of July yet!
Preparations for the day begin very early with locals and visitors lending a hand in setting up the balloon arches that decorate Ocean Avenue with the colors of our patriotic flag, red, white, and blue.
Cayucos Fourth of July Sandcastle Contest 5 a.m. – 8 a.m.
If you're looking for a creative way to spend your morning, come down to the beach and participate in the Sand Sculpture Competition! The contest is from 5 a.m to 8 a.m., and all ages and abilities are welcome. Parking is allowed in front of the Veteran's Hall until 8 a.m. You might win a trophy! Year after year we have so many great artists creating their sand sculptures.

Cayucos Fourth of July Parade
Let the fun continue! Walking down Ocean Avenue you will see a sea of chairs that have been set up as early as July 3rd at 6 p.m. to secure a front-row seat to the 4th of July parade. Independence Day parade starts at 10 a.m. from the south side of town down Ocean Avenue and runs until 12 p.m. Each year you'll see a variety of entertainment including floats, classic cars, and live music! We recommend getting here by 8 a.m. to get parking in designated parking areas throughout Cayucos. Avoid freeway entrances and bridges; you will be cited. We graciously thank the Cayucos Lion's Club for putting on this great event!
Lion's Club BBQ & Lioness' Club Bingo and Pull Tabs
If you start to smell something mouthwatering around 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., it's the Lion's Club BBQ. You'll find BBQ tri-tip, chicken, and an assortment of sides at the foot of the pier. It's a great place to recharge with a tasty lunch before our Lioness Club-sponsored Bingo! Come and play to be a lucky winner from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Try your hand at multiple games of Bingo and pull-tabs; daubers are available for purchase. Proceeds from this fun event benefit the Cayucos Lionness Club, including Hardie Park Pool and equipment, swimming programs, and Jr. lifeguard scholarships.
Fireworks at the Cayucos Pier
The best way to end your 4th of July is with the stunning fireworks show off the Cayucos Pier! The Cayucos Chamber of Commerce works rigorously putting on fundraisers for this event. No alcohol, fires, or fireworks are allowed on the beach, so it's a great place for families to come and watch. Make sure to bring a blanket, chairs, and a warm jacket to enjoy the show! The fireworks show starts around 9 p.m. and lasts about 30 minutes.
The firework show is the event that tops off the night in Cayucos for everyone on the 4th of July. Cayucos Chamber puts on the firework show with help from money raised during May Madness ticket sales. If you are interested in attending May Madness it is held on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and tickets can be purchased at Sea Shanty restaurant.
